Boubon Bonbons

This past New Year's Eve my friend Amanda couldn't make it to my party, but she sent me this recipe in her stead.

1/2 cup butter, softened
1/3 cup plus 2 tsp bourbon
1 1/2 tbsp tbsp milk
7 1/2 cups sifted powdered sugar
1/2 cup finely chopped pecans
2 (12-ounce) packages semisweet chocolate morsels (can also use dark chocolate)
3 tbsp shortening
Optional: whole pecans, 1 per candy

Combine butter, bourbon, and milk; add sugar, and knead until mixture is blended and does not stick to hands. Knead in pecans. Refrigerate 1 hour. Shape into 1-inch balls; freeze. Combine chocolate morsels and shortening in top of double boiler; bring water to a boil. Reduce heat to low; cook until chocolate melts. Dip each ball of candy into chocolate mixture. If you prefer, press a whole pecan onto the top of the candy while the chocolate is still soft. Place on wax paper to cool. Store in refrigerator.
